Review: 2010 ONE Industries Trooper 2 helmet

MotoOnline.com.au puts ONE’s top of the line helmet to the test in our latest product review.

MotoOnline.com.au puts ONE’s top of the line Trooper 2 helmet to the test in our latest product review.

WHAT IT IS…
ONE Industries’ Trooper helmet has proven one of the most popular on the market, and as the second generation of its kind, the Trooper 2 helmet is ONE’s best lid yet.

In Australia you can see the likes of Matt Moss, Jake Moss and Lawson Bopping representing for team Rockstar Motul Suzuki at each and every round of Super X, while Cody Cooper did a fine job in the MX Nationals this year also.

Developed by some of the best pros on the planet, ONE Industries has definitely done its homework in this case.

HOW IT WORKS…
The ONE Industries Trooper 2 helmet features a Kevlar-reinforced fibreglass shell with optimum weight distribution, making it both stronger and lighter than the model it proceeds.

The Trooper 2 helmet has been tweaked to function with the evolution of the neck brace. The new flat bottom rim of the Trooper 2 grants additional contact with the upper shelf of the most popular neck braces for increased safety.

ONE Industries has added forehead intake vents with huge exhaust vents out back to give the Trooper 2 helmet great venting, which is in addition to the venting in the chin bar and mouthpiece.

A larger eye port in the Trooper 2 helmet allows for better goggle contact and view.

ONE Industries has also added large aluminium visor bolts for quick visor changes and adjustments.

Inside the Trooper 2 helmet is lined with Savoire® fabric that is plush for comfort and moisture wicking to keep you cool. The removable liner and cheek pads can be washed.

The One Industries Trooper 2 helmet meets and exceeds the Snell M2005 and DOT safety standards, also obviously meeting Australian Standards.

HOW IT RATES…
It’s always a tricky thing, switching helmets, so when I turned up to the test of the 2011 model Suzuki RM-Z range with a brand new Trooper 2 in my gear bag, you could say I was a little nervous.

Upon putting the helmet on for the first time I could feel it’s a narrow helmet, definitely different than what I had worn before. Luckily in this case, different also means good!

Once out on the track I forgot all about having a new helmet on, which is always a positive so you can focus on the riding, and if you’re not thinking about a piece of riding gear while on the bike, chances are it’s comfortable.

Since then I’ve ridden in various weather on different tracks and even switched in up between motocross and a bit of enduro, and it’s worked a treat so far.

The venting is definitely a plus and I’ll be putting that to good use in the summer, while ONE’s claims of a larger eye port are also accurate as I haven’t encountered any vision issues at this point.

A guide in the shell for your goggles to be positioned over also comes in handy.

Not only is the liner comfy, but it also holds perspirations well, although the white lining could be looked at as somewhat of a design flaw for your everyday rider. For sure it looks cool in supercross when we’re watching the pros at work, but make sure you keep your personal liner clean with a wash after every ride.

Styling wise I’m a fan of the ‘squarish’ look, and the graphic set on our particular test Trooper 2 look pretty sweet too. For 2011 there are a host of fresh graphics, so check those particular lids out by clicking here.

Finally, the flat section of the back rim on the Trooper 2 works awesome with the brace, and I can confirm that either Leatt or Alpinestars braces are completely comfortable with that design.

All in all, it’s a very fine helmet that ONE can be super proud of.
