CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha’s Jay Marmont believes he has what it takes to chase down American Josh Hansen in the remaining rounds of this year’s Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship.

The reigning MX Nationals Champion currently sits third in the series after two rounds contested to date, with Hansen and countryman Justin Brayton currently occupying the top two positions.

With Brayton returning home following tonight’s round at Aurora Stadium in Launceston, Marmont is focussed on Hansen at the top of the points table at this stage of the season.

“Hanny and I are two different characters – he’s really an out there sort of guy who jokes around a lot, acts like he doesn’t take it too serious, but deep down you know he’s here to take this championship as well,” Marmont commented.

“It’s time to stop playing Mr. Nice Guy and go out there to battle for some race wins. He’s getting the better of me at the moment, he’s ding everything right and I’m sort of just getting by. I’ve been working on my speed and intencity, so I know I have a win in me. I seem to be the closest guy to the Americans, so I know if I can battle with them it’ll give me confidence to do it week in, week out.”

After a fifth at Newcastle’s season opener and a fourth in Canberra last weekend, Marmont currently sits 20 points behind Hansen in the title, hoping to capture his first podium of the season in Tasmania – a race he won at in 2009.
