Highlights of Australia’s version of the extreme Dakar race, the Australasian Safari, will be screened on ONE HD and Channel Ten from this Sunday, 24 October.

Considered one of the world’s great endurance events, the Australasian Safari travelled from Southern Cross in the WA wheatbelt through the historic Western Australian goldfields, desert, rugged bush and coastal sand dunes, finishing on the stunning beaches of Esperance on the southern coast.

More than 110 competitors started the eight-day event and only 64 managed to finish the race – proof of the incredible challenge the event presents to the most seasoned contenders.

The gruelling 3600km event for cars, bikes and quads, was held from 18 to 25 September and attracted competitors from around the globe.

V8 Supercar champion Craig Lowndes swapped his usual terrain of smooth bitumen for dirt, dust and rocks, rising to the challenge and taking the first place podium in the auto category.

Past winner Ben Grabham took home first place in the moto category, securing a trifecta of Safari firsts, having won the event in both 2008 and 2009.

The Australasian Safari, which marked its 25th year in 2010, is supported by the Western Australian Government with coverage of the event broadcast into key international tourism markets.

Regional broadcast times will be posted to www.australasiansafari.com.au as they become available.

Sunday, 24 October at 10:05pm (ONE HD)
Saturday, 30 October at 9:30pm (ONE HD)
