Review: FOX Titan Race Subframe

MotoOnline.com.au reviews the FOX Titan Race Subframe, a new breed of body armour.

For many years now there have been three traditional choices for roost protection including the bulky outer body amour, which many find uncomfortable; the chest protector, which is soft piece of foam that fits around your body for mainly soft roost protection; or the large over-restrictive under body armour which includes built-in spine protection and elbow guards.

FOX has now come up with a better design, which is the FOX Titan Race Subframe. This protector provides maximum comfort while also delivering a quality protection to the rider. FOX referes to this armour as “the rockstar of roost’’.

One of the first things I noticed when putting on the armour was how comfortable it is. The plastic fits perfectly over your body shape and really feels like there is nothing on.

After testing there was only one thing I could find that I didn’t like about the armour. It was how my Leatt brace fitted around the plastic shelling of the roost protector. I found it made the neck brace sit and obstruct a lot more movement then I would usually get with my head. After playing with the settings on the brace I got it to a point where I now find it comfortable.

So if you are looking to buy and you do have a neck brace, with a little playing around you can get it too fit comfortably.

The armour consists of the same foam protection system as most roost deflectors, however boasts the new hard plastic shell design on the outside making it the safest and most comfortable protector out there.

It has the hard plastic shell on the front providing maximum safety for any blows you may receive to the chest. It also includes a back spine protector.

The new hard shell design will make it more appealing to the younger riders. Many juniors see riders like Ryan Dungey riding with no over body armour protection. Now some of the bigger juniors can feel like pros with this under body armour providing great protection and plastic base which should make legal for Australian junior riders to compete in this armour.

The Subframe is also available in a cheaper Sport option.
