Two-time Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Champion, Matt Moss will defend his Lites title in 2010 with Rockstar Motul Suzuki, opting to remain on the RM-Z250 after a frustrating season in the United States this year.

Moss partnered AMA Supercross and Motocross Champion Ryan Dungey in the factory Rockstar Makita Suzuki team in the U.S. during 2010, however a back and wrist injury suffered on the 450 in Brisbane’s Super X finale dashed his hopes of a strong performance as he fought to regain fitness all year.

In his first day of riding back in Australia on Friday, talented 22-year-old Moss confirmed that he will revert to the Lites class for Super X, which commences at Newcastle in New South Wales on 16 October.

“It feels good to have the number one plate after not really doing anything special lately, so it’s nice to be back,” Moss told MotoOnline.com.au.

“My wrist doesn’t bend and I know it’s going to be a hard season because I can tell just from today, but I know I have the best equipment and good guys around me so I just have to get out there and try my very best. Hopefully we can get that number one again three times running.”

Moss’ return to the Lites class sets up a head-to-head battle with MX Nationals Pro Lites Champion PJ Larsen, the American campaigning his first full season of Super X with JDR Motorex KTM.

“I honestly believe I can win back on the Lites bike,” Moss commented. “I’ve heard that PJ Larsen is quick, but I know what I can do. Hopefully he can’t match it and hopefully nobody else can match it either.”

In a revealing interview, Moss also said that he will return to Australia fulltime in 2011, although it’s not confirmed whether he’ll be at Suzuki or not at this point. Various industry sources have linked him with KTM for the new year.

“I’m coming back this year to do Supercross and then I’ll be back fulltime next year for Motocross and Supercross in Australia, so hopefully I can get back to where I was and have another shot,” he revealed.

“I just need a year to get back my confidence and also to get back to full fitness around my family, my dad and my trainer. I need to feel good about myself, be headstrong and the reality is that this year I didn’t like it. I hated going racing.

“You’ve got to love where you’re at and love what you’re doing, so I’m going to try and get that fire back in my belly again and get going.”

Moss will partner Lawson Bopping in the Lites, while twin brother Jake Moss will spearhead Suzuki’s Open class program during Super X.
