Australian Pro Open MX Nationals number three Dean Ferris has put a disappointing finish to the MX1 Motocross World Championship season behind him and will treat it as a learning experience after the season came to a close at Fermo in Italy last weekend.

The talented Queenslander contested the last two rounds of the world championship season with the factory Martin Honda team, only to have a string of bad luck ruin any possibility of clinching a strong result in either of the rounds.

Ferris’ highlight was a 19th position in moto one in Italy, only to be ruled out of moto two with a mechanical problem while sitting comfortably in 18th.

“It has been a great experience riding in the GPs this year and I would like to thank Honda Racing MX Martin for the opportunity,” Ferris said after the Italian GP, who by Suzuki’s Clement Desalle.

“It has been a real steep learning curve and I will be sure to use what I have learned in my racing next season.”

While Ferris will now focus on the Motocross of Nations at Thunder Valley in the USA on 26 September as Team Australia’s MX2 representative, it remains uncertain whether he will return to Australia full time in 2011 or embark on an international career in Europe as a world championship regular.

Earlier in the season at the German Grand Prix, Ferris put in a solid performance to claim 22-14 results.
