AMA MX: Windham, Brown and Strang set for Nationals

American Honda has revealed that Kevin Windham will be added to the Honda Red Bull Racing team in place of Davi Millsaps, who was injured during the Budds Creek AMA Motocross race on 19 June and the timing of his return is still to be determined.

At 32 years of age, Windham enjoyed one of his strongest seasons ever during the 2010 Supercross series, finishing the year in the runner-up spot. He climbed the podium eight times, and posted two consecutive race wins in Seattle and Salt Lake City.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity to fill in for Davi until he’s healthy and ready to race again,” said Windham. “As I said earlier this year, I had no intentions of racing the full Motocross season, but it will be great to get back on the bike and fill in for a few races.

“I want to thank my GEICO Powersports Honda team for supporting me in this effort, and of course Honda Red Bull Racing for giving me this opportunity to team with Andrew Short and Ashley Fiolek. This should be a lot of fun.”

Windham will begin racing in round seven held at the Spring Creek event on 17 July, in Millville, MN, and stay on board until Millsaps recovers from his injuries and returns to the Honda Red Bull Racing team.

Another veteran of the sport will be deputising this weekend, with FMF/KTM Factory WORCS rider Mike Brown will compete at the Red Bud Motocross National on a KTM 250 SX-F race machine in place of regular rider Tommy Searle.

Brown, who has continued to race a couple outdoor nationals in the 450 class over the past years to keep his #3 national number plate is excited about returning to the 250 class.

“It will definitely be different to race on a Lites bike,” remarked Brown. “However, I look forward to the challenge to race against all the younger riders.”

Brown was successful in winning the 2001 125cc National Motocross Championship and has since moved on from motocross to a career in off-road racing. He was crowned the 2009 WORCS Champion and is currently sitting 3rd in the 2010 WORCS point standings.

A surprise entrant this weekend at Red Bud this Saturday is Grand National Cross Country XC1 leader Josh Strang, the Australian Suzuki rider set to make his professional motocross debut in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship in the 450 Class.

Strang’s based in California and practices a lot of motocross, also contesting the Lakes round of the Australian MX Nationals last season and putting in formidible results.
