Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing’s Todd Waters has pin-pointed a collision in race three with fellow Honda rider Dean Ferris as an incident that shouldn’t have occurred during round six of the MX Nationals in Wodonga, Victoria, yesterday.

Waters, who is still recovering from a broken collarbone, finished third and sixth in the first two Pro Open races but came together Ferris on the opening lap of the final race.

“Dean Ferris took me out in the third race and we both went down – it was silly, a no brainer move that shouldn’t have happened,” Waters explained.

“On a positive note, I showed I can still race up the front even though my collarbone is not as strong as it was. Once I get my strength back it should all come together. I struggled a little bit with my starts today. In the first race I came from seventh to finish third which was very positive given my collarbone is still healing.”

Waters was sixth for the round and now sits seventh in the Pro Open Championship standings with two rounds in the series remaining.

Ferris, the leading privateer in the series on his privateer Honda, was fighting hard after a crash in race one left him with suspected cracked ribs, finishing with 12-7-9 results for eighth overall, now sitting fifth in the series.

“Things were looking really promising today, we qualified the strongest we have all season and I was feeling great. The track was good and the bike was awesome and the crash was just unfortunate,” he commented. “Winded, I remounted but soon realised something further was wrong as I just couldn’t breathe properly for the rest of the moto.

“A little bit disappointed today as I was really looking forward to closing the gap on the two guys in front of me in the championship, but that’s racing. We will go and get X-rayed tomorrow to find out what the damage is and then work out a plan of attack for the final few rounds.

“Luckily there is three weeks till the next round in Moree, so I will be back to 100 percent for the final rounds and with over 200 points still on offer, it’s not over yet!”

The penultimate round of the 2010 MX Nationals will be held at Moree Motorcycle Club on Sunday, 18 July.
