Off-Road: Grabham fastest in Finke Desert Race prologue

Motorex KTM’s Ben Grabham has set the fastest time in prologue in the bikes section of the 2010 Tattersall’s Finke Desert Race yesterday.

Bathurst rider Grabham, who has had victories in the last three Finke Desert classics, set himself for a fourth victory by completing the eight kilometre prologue circuit in a time of 4 minutes 57.50 seconds.

Second fastest in prologue was Chad Billett from Roxby Downs in South Australia who set a time of 4 minutes 58.08 seconds. Billett ran third in last year’s event. The third fastest time in prologue went to reigning AORC champion Toby Price from Singleton in New South Wales with a time of 4 minutes 58.87.

Last year’s fastest rider in prologue, Caleb Auricht (#X96 Honda) – now residing in Queensland – was fourth fastest today with a time of 4 minutes 58.94 seconds.

Bike competitors will start the two day race from Alice Springs to Finke and back for a total distance of 452 kilometres at 11.30am CST today.

Competitors camp overnight before returning to Alice Springs on Monday, 14 June.
