Eskil Suter’s dreams of launching a MotoGP team have taken a further step forward this week, with the revelation that his team will test a BMW-engined MotoGP prototype after the Brno round in August.

The Swiss constructor is set to debut with a 1000cc MotoGP bike as soon as July in a private test, before the real test will come as Suter makes its public debut after the Brno round if all goes to plan.

“We think we can have the bike on track already in July,” Suter said. “We would like to be ready for the second MotoGP test at Brno in mid-August. Our rider would likely be Roberto Rolfo, who is already our test rider for Moto2.”

Suter is preparing for when the premier class reverts to a 1000cc capacity in 2012, the regulations set to feature production-based engines fitted within prototype chassis, similar to the new-look Moto2 category that has replaced 250GP this season.

However with grids dwindling and pressure mounting on the privately entered teams, it’s believed that the FIM and Dorna are considering an early introduction of 1000cc capacity machines – possibly as early as next season.

The Suter chassis is currently a favourite in Moto2, winning on debut with Japanese star Shoya Tomizawa at Qatar and currently sitting second in the world standings after three rounds behind the Moriwaki of ex-MotoGP race winner Toni Elias.

Confirmation of the Suter MotoGP test is expected in the coming weeks.
