CJC Racing BMW privateer Craig Coxhell will make a shock switch to the Superstock 1000 A ranks when the Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship visits Queensland Raceway on 4-6 June, citing a lack of parts to convert the S 1000 RR to Superbike specification as the reason for the decision.

The Victorian made his 2010 season debut at Hidden Valley’s second round of the series last month, riding a Superstock-spec BMW in the Superbike ranks, however the CJC Racing team has opted to enter Superstock for at least the next round of the series.

“We just don’t have any parts for the bike at the moment – or sponsors,” the 27-year-old explained to MotoOnline.com.au this afternoon.

“Until parts are available there’s no point racing it in Superbike when it’s actually a Superstock-spec bike, so we figured that it’d be better to race in Superstock and if we manage to beat a few of the Superbikes then that’s even better.

“The bike only had an Akrapovic exhaust at Darwin, it didn’t even have a Power Commander or anything, so it was basically a Superstock bike there. We’ll essentially be on the exact same bike in Queensland as what we were in Darwin, just entered in a different class.”

Coxhell will remain within the premier class on-track as the Superstock 1000 A category is contested within the Superbike races, his main opponent for the class victory being Aluma-lite Racing rider Ben Attard, who has won the opening two rounds to date on a Ducati 1198 S and is currently leading the series.

The Queensland Raceway round of the series will take place next weekend at the ‘Paperclip’ near Ipswich in the Sunshine State.
