Australia’s former double Superbike World Champion Troy Corser has clinched BMW’s first podium in the category, finishing third on Sunday at the fifth round of the 2010 title chase in Italy.

The historic podium is a first for BMW since joining the series last season, however the Wollongong-based veteran is now looking to claim the manufacturer’s debut victory.

“I am so happy – we have put so much hard work into the project up to now having had some difficult and frustrating times,” said Corser. “It feels so good to see that all the hard work pays off and the bike is becoming better and better.

“Between the races we made some set-up changes and the bike stopped much easier, and we had the speed to compete with the top guys. Thanks to all the boys at BMW. It has been a long time coming, and it won’t be the last time.”

Corser’s third place was his first podium finish in World Superbike since the 2008 season finale, in what was his last appearance for Yamaha before joining BMW.
