Oz MX: Andrew McFarlane honoured after Broadford incident
The Australian motocross fraternity has honoured multiple-time national champion Andrew McFarlane after a tragic incident at Broadford this morning.
The Australian motocross fraternity has honoured multiple-time national champion and former world runner-up Andrew McFarlane after a tragic incident claimed his life at Broadford’s third round of the 2010 Rockstar Energy MX Nationals this morning.
McFarlane, one of Australia’s most successful riders in the history of the sport, passed away after a crash during practice at the Victorian venue, despite immediate treatment from medical staff at the track.
In a statement released earlier by governing body Motorcycling Australia, MA, series promoter Williams Event Management and McFarlane’s JDR Motorsport Motorex KTM team expressed their sincerest condolences to the entire McFarlane family.
The day’s proceedings have been called, however the Pro Open, Pro Lites and Under 19s categories all completed three parade laps each in memory of the Queenslander, lead by JDR riders Tye Simmonds, Ryan Marmont, PJ Larsen and Josh Cachia – all wearing the customary number seven front plate of their teammate McFarlane.
Following the laps, a speech was made regarding McFarlane’s impressive career by series director Kevin Williams, a final flag falling on behalf of the JDR team.
