Oz MX: Waters and Dale wrap up Queensland state titles

Cougar Bourbon Honda Thor Racing’s Todd Waters has taken out the Pro Open class at the Queensland Motocross Championships, winning the third and final event at Roma on the weekend.

The young Queenslander, who is also leading the MX Nationals Pro Open Championship, took a clean sweep of the three-round state series which he contested as a means to ensure optimum preparation for the national series.

“It was fantastic to win the Queensland title,” said the 19-year-old. “I had a great time and really enjoyed the events. This series has given me with a great opportunity to ensure I am fully race fit for the MX Nationals but my main focus is firmly on the winning the National series and the key to winning is consistency.”

Waters took out the Pro Open state title ahead of fellow national level riders Dean Ferris and Todd Waters.

Despite no points in the opening moto of the championship, Ford Dale still won the Pro Lites class as the championship wrapped up.

Dale, on board his Serco Yamaha, won every race since that opening moto and took another three wins from three starts at Roma to take the round win and the overall state championship.

“After being injured for most of 2009, I decided to do this championship to get some race practice in and continue building form for the MX Nationals,” Dale commented. “It has worked well for that and I feel confident on the bike and ready to race at my best in the national championship.”

In what is a great testament to the 2010 Yamaha YZ250F, in the final championship standings it was a Yamaha blue wash on the podium with Dale taking the win, Luke Weaver slotting into second and Joel Rizzo taking the final spot on the podium for the Lites.
