Herfoss, Waters and Casella completed the Hidden Valley Supersport podium.

A thrilling climax to the second round of the InsureMyRide Australian Supersport Championship saw Brodie Waters score his first national victory for the Sunstate Racing Suzuki team, edging out Team Suzuki’s Troy Herfoss.

Herfoss lead for much of the race before a few moments allowed Waters, younger brother of current Superbike champion Josh, to close in, the pair swapping the lead numerous times as the laps wound down – the race reduced to 14 from the scheduled 17.

A late-braking manoeuvre from Waters into the first turn on the final lap capped off the race, the Victorian able to hold off Herfoss to the line by 0.373sec, while Triumph’s Christan Casella rounded out the podium just 0.519sec behind Waters.

Herfoss won the overall from Waters and Casella, the trio proving the dominant contestants in this year’s title chase.

Fourth was a solid ride by Ben Burke on his privateer Yamaha ahead of Mitchell Carr, Blake Leigh-Smith, who is on an ex-Team Suzuki GSX-R600, while Chris Quinn, Aaron Gobert, Dylan Mavin and Arthur Cohen rounded out the top 10.

Aaron Morris suffered what looked to be a mechanical problem in the mid-stages of the race, forcing him out of sixth position at that stage.

The Superbike final leg is coming up shortly, with no sign of rain for race two.
