Off-Road: Baja winner Hengeveld back for Finke Desert Race

Seven-time Baja 1000 outright winner Steve Hengeveld has confirmed his 2010 Finke Desert Race entry.

Hengeveld is once again making the trek down under to contest the legendary Tattersall’s Finke Desert Race. Having competed twice at the Finke, once in 2006 on an XR650R and in 2007 on a CRF450R, Hengeveld will round out his Honda trilogy by racing in the highly competitive 250cc class on a DERT-prepped Honda CRF250R.

“When I got the call from Michael Vroom at Desert Edge letting me know there was a ripper of a 250 with my name on it I booked my ticket straight away,” Hengeveld declared.

Hengeveld has finished the Finke with a 10th outright on the XR650R, a class win on the CRF450R and now plans on adding the 250cc class win to his Alice Springs résumé.

“It is great to have Steve Hengeveld back under the DERT Honda banner,” Desert Edge’s Michael Vroom proclaims. “Henge is the last piece in the team puzzle for us in having a competitive 250cc rider. With the limited possibility of pre-running and preparation for Finke, Steve’s preference is to ride Honda’s blazing new 250 over anything else.”

The 35th annual Tattersall’s Finke Desert race will be held on 11-14 June in Alice Springs. For more information log on to www.finkedesertrace.com.au.
