Oz MX: Styke fires warning shot before Pro Lites debut

Styke won't be holding back in the Pro Lites during the 2010 season.

Styke won't be holding back in the Pro Lites during the 2010 season.

Yamaha young gun Luke Styke has declared his intentions for the 2010 Rockstar Energy MX Nationals, set to kick off at Horsham in Victoria this weekend.

The Yamalube/GYTR/Rockstar Yamaha Pro Lites rider and winner of the 2009 Under 19s championship is set to create havoc this season amongst the established Pro Lite riders in what will be his rookie season.

“Names mean nothing to me,” Styke said. “I just want to ride my bike as fast as I can until someone tells me to stop and thats what I’m going to do. I didn’t even take a break over Christmas – I just kept on riding and training for this season and I can’t wait to get out there.”

While Styke and Under 19s teammate Ross Beaton will be strong this season, another Yamaha rider to keep an eye on this weekend will be the talented Ford Dale, who returns to Pro Lites with Serco Yamaha after a season on the 450 at Woodstock Honda last year.

“After a year on the 450cc machine, it feels awesome to ride a 250 again,” the Queenslander explained. “I feel much stronger on the bike than previous years and also the amount of testing and development we have done gives me plenty of confidence going into the first round. My body is back to 100 percent and Serco Yamaha have got the bike in great shape. I plan on making 2010 my best year yet.”

Dale will be joined by Kirk Gibbs, who returns to Serco for a second season and is looking to build upon a solid year in 2009.
