Oz MX: Dean Ferris wins Sunshine State round at Hervey Bay

After winning the first round of the Sunshine State Motocross series, Honda CRF450R-mounted rider Dean Ferris blasted through last weekend’s most recent round four at Hervey Bay, taking out a 1-1 finish in the two 20-minute motos.

“I pulled the holeshot in the first race and led every lap until the flag fell. I was under plenty of pressure from Todd Waters and Andrew McFarlane,” Ferris commented.

“I found my lines pretty quickly, and was able to extend my lead by a few seconds. The constant lapped traffic made it difficult to build a gap but I actually lapped up to fourth place so I was very happy to win the moto.

“I made a few changes and took the holeshot again in moto 2, and had some intense battling for the lead which was good for my race strategy. I crashed but picked myself up and managed to catch up to Todd. I passed him for the lead again and managed to win by a very big margin.

“The track was very physical because of the deteriorating sand so it became rough and rutted which actually suits me well.

“These rounds have been a great for pre-season testing and it’s a pleasure to ride such a well set-up bike.

“The MX nationals start this weekend at Horsham. My whole pre-season has gone to plan. I am very fit and confident for the whole year ahead.”

Ferris will step up to the Pro Open category in 2010, the season kicking off at Horsham in Victoria on 28 March this Sunday.
