Oz MX: Honda Motokids launches at Barrabool in Victoria

After many months of planning and preparation the all-new ‘Honda Motokids’ initiative was run on the weekend for the very first time at the world famous Barrabool circuit near Geelong in Victoria.

A near capacity group of 40 excited kids geared up for a full-on day of riding, games and coaching drills, conducted by Lee Hogan and his team of five coaches from the Building Champions Program.

“So much planning went into organizing this first event so it went off with a bang and today exceeded our expectations,” said event director Hogan. “Our goal from the beginning was for the kids to have fun, stay safe and learn some skills on the bike and we achieved that. Most kids brought their own bikes and also took the time to have a ride on one of Honda’s mini fun bikes, but we also had quite a few ‘first timers’ that had never ridden a bike before. It was a great experience.”

Another boost for the Honda Motokids event opener was an appearance from Australia’s only Motocross based TV show MXTV, with the crew piecing together a feature story on the big launch of Honda Motokids that will air in coming months.

Brendan Bell, owner and co-host of the show was there on the day wearing the MXTV cap, but also as father of young Cameron Bell who made the most of the opportunity to blast around on Honda’s little CRF50.

“The day ran extremely smooth, with the kids getting plenty of riding and learning a few techniques along the way,” explained Bell. “Lee and his boys did a terrific job on the day. You couldn’t wipe the smiles off the kids faces.”

With the Barrabool launch now completed, Honda Motokids now heads to the Broadmeadows Dirt Bike Complex in Victoria on 1 April for the second event on the calendar before heading up to the Newcastle region later in the month.
