Oz MX: Marmont confident of Pro Open title number three

Jay Marmont will be shooting for Pro Open MX Nationals title number three in 2010.

With the first round of the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals just weeks away, reigning champion and CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s Jay Marmont will be headlining this week’s series launch at Barrabool in Geelong, confident he has what it takes to win his third consecutive Pro Open crown this season.

“We’ve done a bunch of testing out at McAdam Park,” Marmont said. “We’ve been out to Barrabool a lot and it will be a home race for our team so we’ll be looking to come out and dominate there in round three. I’m really looking forward to getting out to Geelong and riding the track on Friday and seeing what where the other guys are at.”

In 2010 Marmont will vie for his third Australian Pro Open Motocross crown in three years, however the defending champ isn’t getting too complacent.

“Going for my third championship – it’s always hard to back up your title win and this year there’s a few extra people who have jumped into the Pro Open mix,” he said. “There’s Billy Mackenzie from Scotland, Todd Waters, Tye Simmonds and of course my teammate Cheyne Boyd, so there’s some fresh competition – we’ve just got to be smart about it and try to come out on top.”

As the only rider who managed to steal not one but two round wins from World Supercross Champion Chad Reed in the 2009 Australasian SuperX Championship – and overcoming a tumultuous year including the loss of his daughter Lila – Marmont recently married long-time girlfriend Abby and took some time off before getting back on the bike.

“I was going to take a whole bunch of time off but as usual I couldn’t keep off the bike too long!” Marmont said. “We went over to Thailand and got married, we had our wedding party on New Year’s Eve, and from there I haven’t really done too much apart from riding the stock bike over the break.

“Now we’ve got our suspension from America and we’re able to throw some great gear on the bike and really get serious, so I can’t wait for Friday and another chance to ride.”

The official launch of the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals will take place at McAdam Park, Barrabool, on 5 March at 11am.

The first round of the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals kicks off on Sunday 28 March at Horsham Motorcycle Club in Victoria.
