General: New policies announced by Motorcycling NSW

Motorcycling NSW has implemented two new policies that will affect all current and potential MNSW licence holders in a move to help the current economic situation, the policies introduced on 1 January 2010.

In a day and age when family-orientated activities are few and far between, MNSW has undertaken many changes to help ease the burden off current riding families, encouraging other families to get outdoors and active together without fearing the costs involved.

The following is a run down of the changes for 2010:

Policy – 10.1.1 Family Licence Discount
To promote and encourage the family nature and culture that exists within the motorcycling community, in turn promoting more interest in motorcycle sport and recreation in general. The family licence rebate has been introduced to encourage a cost saving to members of the one family to hold multiple licences – for families competing in motorcycle sport in NSW. The discount structure for members of the same family, as appearing on a valid Government issue Medicare card will be as follows:

Licence number Discount
1 $ –
2 $25.00
3 $50.00
4 $75.00
All additional $75.00

Policy – 10.1.1 Single Use Licences
Single Use Licences are a common solution for riders wanting to test the waters in motorcycle sport. In order to encourage these new participants, the SUL rebate is offered to return something to each rider who wishes to continue their active participation in the motorcycle sport community – and become annual licence holders. The new policy offers any rider who purchase either a Single Use Competition Licence (SUCL) or a Single Use Recreational Licence (SURL) the opportunity to receive a discount on an annual licence – upon presentation of the SUL at the time of application. The annual licence must be applied for within 14 days of the use of the SUL and the discount offered will be the RRP for the Single Use Licence purchase – as below:

SURL – $20.00
SUCL – $44.00

*Current as of 1 January 2010, but is subject to change without notice. Both policies are to be utilised in conjunction the General Competition Riles (GCR’s) listed within the Manual of Motorcycle Sports and the MNSW By-laws.

The idea behind the changes is to encourage more riders to become active and regular participants of motorcycle sport and recreation, as will as making it a more accessible sporting option for families. These two new policies are the first in many proposed steps toward bringing families together through motorcycle sport and recreation, whilst encouraging those previously unaware of the fun and excitement that coincides with motorcycling in general.

With large quantities of everyday Australians worrying about the costs of day-to-day living – let alone sporting and recreational activities – a press release from MNSW stated that they are excited about the opportunity to give something back to those following their love of the sport and will continue developing new family and general initiatives to keep motorcycling within reach of everybody.
