Australian Broc Parkes will miss the opening round of the Superbike World Championship after breaking his right tibia in a training accident on the weekend.

Parkes, from Newcastle in New South Wales, is expected to be out of the saddle for 4-6 weeks, which would mean a return to racing in round two at Portimao, Portugal, in late March.

The news of Parkes’ incident is a tough break for the CRS Honda rider, the team utilising the ex-Stiggy Motorsports Honda CBR1000RR machinery that was used by Leon Haslam last season.

It’s believed that the team is currently looking at possible replacement riders from Australia, although the opening round of the Viking Australian Superbike Championship will be contested on the same weekend.
