Oz SX: Marmont hoping to extend point lead in New Zealand

YAMAHA RACING:

As the 2009 Monster Energy Super X series crosses the Tasman for the first time ever, Yamaha Racing’s Jay Marmont is hoping to consolidate his lead at the penultimate round of the championship at Hamilton’s Waikato Stadium on Saturday November 21, 2009.

A third at last weekend’s event saw Marmont leap to first position in the series point score, with just one point separating the YZ450F rider from two-time AMA/World Supercross Champion, Chad Reed.

“As we enter the business end of the championship, being out in front is where I really want to be at the moment and it will be crucial for me to get another good result this weekend in Hamilton to ensure the best possible result at the conclusion of the championship,” Marmont said.

“I’m really looking forward to going over to Hamilton.  It has been some time since I last raced in New Zealand and it will be great to meet with the fans as New Zealanders are extremely passionate about their dirt bike racing.”

This weekend’s event will see a return to the Quad Challenge format, which was debuted at the second round of the series in Geelong.

“As proved in Geelong, it is crucial to get four good starts and four good races finishes.  One bad result or a fall can really hurt you during this format and I’ll be striving to stay consistent to claim as many points as possible,” Marmont concluded.

Marmont’s team-mate, Cheyne Boyd will not be competing at the event after injuring his elbow in a heavy fall at Parramatta last weekend.  It is anticipated that Boyd will recover in time for the final round of the championship in Brisbane.

Yamaha Racing’s Pro Lites riders, Kirk Gibbs and Kyle Cunningham will enjoy a week off with the Hamilton event to only feature the Pro Open championship.  They will return to the track for the final round of the series at Brisbane’s QSAC Stadium on Saturday December 5, 2009.
