Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Jonathan Rea has signalled his intentions for the 2010 Superbike World Championship, lapping quickest with a storming 1:41.878 on day two of the post-season WSBK test at Portimao in Portugal yesterday.

Rea lead the way ahead of Ducati Xerox rider Michel Fabrizio, while new Supersport World Champion Cal Crutchlow impressed on debut with Ben Spies’ Yamaha YZF-R1, setting the third quickest lap.

Leon Haslam was quick enough for fourth on the Alstare Suzuki to be out Aprilia teammates Max Biaggi and Leon Camier, while 2009 runner-up Nori Haga was seventh overall.

MotoGP rider James Toseland finished up his return tests to Superbike in eighth, over a second off the pace of teammate Crutchlow, with Carlos Checa showing good form in his Althea Ducati debut for ninth. Rounding out the top 10 was German Max Neukirchner on the second of the Ten Hate Hondas.

Regis Laconi was a notable returnee for DFX Ducati with the 17th quickest lap, while a new face in the Superbike field was WSS pilot Joan Lascorz on a Kawasaki ZX-10R.

Australian Chris Vermeulen was in attendance but not riding due to contractual obligations, while Broc Parkes was on a Kawasaki World Supersport bike on his way to the fourth quickest time.
