Oz SX: JDR's Marmont silences critics once again at Geelong

JDR MOTORSPORTS/MX RAD:

JDR Motorsports’ Ryan Marmont has again silenced critics by securing another hard-fought second place at round two of the 2009 Super X series in Geelong – in a weekend of progress for JDR.

Backing-up from his second place in Tasmania just one week earlier, Marmont went into the Geelong round full of confidence and got things underway well, with a solid qualifying performance. With his speed still on-the-improve, Marmont was one of only a handful of riders that had anything for current number one and series leader, Matt Moss.

Proving consistency wins championships, ‘Doggie’ turned in another 2-2 result to finish the round in second place.

“We are really happy with how things are progressing right now. We have all put in so much work to make sure we had every opportunity to win and it’s beginning to show. There are still some things to work on though, but as the series moves forward, so will we and hopefully be even closer to getting on top of the podium,” explained Marmont.

After a baptism of fire in the Pro Open class in Tasmania, Beau Ralston, lined-up in Geelong as a new rider. With a renewed focus, Ralston found speed and rhythm that had eluded him the week previous. Although Ralston missed the top-ten man-on-man shootout, Beau still managed to work his way through the four-race final to finish in 16th place for the round.

“Today was an improvement that’s for sure, but we still have a long way to go. These tracks and formats are a new concept and it’s just taking a little bit of time to get the bike and my head around it all. I have no doubt we can improve drastically over coming weeks, but we’ve just got to take it one round at a time,” said Ralston of the weekend.

Another rider who came into Geelong looking to utilize his new-found focus was Josh Cachia. Following a less-than-perfect start to the series, Cachia came out swinging in Geelong. Running times that were well inside the top-ten. Unfortunately, Cachia couldn’t quite manage to get it all together when it counted and slipped down the order during the Pro Lites finals, to eventually finish in 16th place also.

“Things really aren’t clicking at the moment. We have made some small improvements since Tasmania, but we still have a long way to go. It is a great learning curve though, getting to ride in the Pro Lites class and I guess we’ll use this as a platform to build from for when I move up into the class full-time,” explained Cachia.

Still missing from the series is former Australian SX Champ, Andrew McFarlane, who crashed while practicing in the lead-up to Tasmania.

Andrew has still been in attendance at the rounds to help the rest of the team, but is looking forward to getting his chance to mix it up with the increasing list of Pro Open contenders.

“I’ll admit it’s not easy to sit and watch the championship unfold in front of us, but we know that to have any chance of taking some round wins, I need to be 100% fit – and I think we are getting there. There are some real good riders mixing it up out front right now and I can’t wait to get back out there. I still feel fit and healthy, so I’m sure that once we are right to go – we’ll be right there, fighting for a podium,” enthused McFarlane.

The team will now head to the West coast of Australia for round three of the 2009 Monster Energy Super X series next weekend in Perth.

As always, JDR would like to thanks all of its sponsors for their continued support throughout season 2009.
