ASBK: Kawasaki's Attard retains podium position in Supersport

KAWASAKI RACING TEAM:

KRT’s Ben Attard has retained his 3rd place standing in the 2009 Australian Supersport Championship after another action packed weekend of racing on board his Ninja ZX-6R at the 4th round of racing at Eastern Creek Raceway, NSW on 8-9 August.

Showing just how good a combination he and the 2009 Ninja ZX-6R are, Ben showed great pace and qualified the Ninja on the front row of the grid for Sunday’s racing.

Whilst Ben’s results in the two races weren’t exactly what he was hoping for, his solid 5-6 finish (5th overall for the round) still yielded the KRT rider enough Championship points to stay inside the top three in the series.

Ben says, “The Ninja ZX-6R has got some great speed. It’s kind of a bittersweet weekend. It’s good to be sitting inside the top three but I didn’t achieve the results I wanted this weekend. The good news is that there’s still room for improvement in the set-up of the ZX-6R and with further testing and development, the lap times should come down.”

KRT rider, Kevin Curtain, showed great speed on his Ninja ZX-10R in the Australian Superbike class, however traction prevented Kevin from achieving the results he was hoping for. Kevin still finished the round inside the top ten going 9-6 to finish in 8th place overall.

KRT Manager Dave Cullen says, “It’s good news that Ben has maintained a top three position in the Championship. This round didn’t deliver the results the team was hoping for. We were hoping for higher results after recent good form by both riders. We’re looking forward to finding even more competitive set ups for the next round at an upcoming test day at Mallala Raceway.”

KRT heads to Mallala Raceway, SA for the 5th round of the Australian Superbike and Supersport Championships on 28-30 August.
