Oz MX: Beaton to join Rockstar CDR Yamaha for Lakes round

Ross Beaton gets the opportunity of a lifetime as he has accepted a guest ride with the all conquering CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team for the Lakes round of the MX Nationals held on August 26. The 17 year old from Tasmania has been in fine form recently and the ride with Yamaha factory open class team is a just reward for his results so far this season.
With a break in his Under 19 racing calendar, where he is currently lying fifth in the points with one round remaining, Beaton is able to take up the opportunity and looks forward to a big showing in the premiere motocross class in Australia.
“I can’t wait. I was so nervous when Craig Dack called me and offered the ride as it has always been a goal of mine to race for his team. I have since spent some time on the race bike and I can’t believe how good it is. The bike I will be riding is the same as Jay Marmont’s and all I did was a couple of tweaks to the suspension and its perfect.”
Being a bigger framed rider, the power and weight of a 450cc bike suits Beaton to a tee and he has already racked up some impressive results at Victorian events over some top class competition.
“I have set some goals for myself and where I would like to come. I know it is going to be tough racing the fastest and fittest riders in the country, but I believe I can do well and expect some good results. Also, I get to hang out with Jay Marmont and Cheyne Boyd, the number 1 and 2 riders in the country at the moment and learn how they go about things on race day and what it takes to be a champion,” Beaton said.
Equally enthused is team owner, Craig Dack, who in the past has given several young riders the opportunity to step up to the big time. CDR Rockstar Yamaha are currently enjoying one of their most successful years with both team riders dominating the Pro Open Motocross Championship sitting one and two in the points chase.
“Ross is a good kid who has been working hard this year. He seems to suit a 450 and has expressed an interest in stepping up to the open class in the future, so I thought this would be a little window to the future for him. No doubt, it is going to be a steep learning curve for him and but he will be a better rider for it and CDR Rockstar Yamaha are happy to help in breeding Australia’s motocross talent,” Dack offered.
Yamaha currently race a dedicated team for each of the major classes at the MX Nationals (Pro Open/ Pro Lites/ U19) and are the only manufacturer to do so. Unity among the teams and riders in 2009 has been exceptional and this allows guest rides such as this.
“This ride for Ross with CDR is an example of one of Yamaha-Motor Australia’s racing policy coming to fruition. We need a definitive pathway from juniors to Pro class and I feel we now have that in place. We want to display to riders that loyalty to a brand pays off,”states Yamaha Motorsport Manager, Ray Howard.

The Lakes round is the penultimate round of the MX Nationals with the final round to be held at the Coolum circuit on the Sunshine Coast the following weekend.
