ASBK: Motologic's Allerton leads ASBK title to Eastern Creek

MOTOLOGIC RACING:

The Woodstock Bourbon Australian Superbike Championship is passing the halfway point for 2009 and Motologic Racing is leading the field in points going into Round 4 at Eastern Creek.

The previous round at Queensland Raceway had twice the excitement of the other rounds, being a double header.  With round 3a replacing the lost second round after it was halted and the first ever Australian Superpole Qualifying leading into round 3b.

More racing meant more success for the Motobet Motologic riders, defending champion Glenn Allerton and team mate Wayne Maxwell.  Both riders showed their level of professionalism and skill throughout the weekend with Allerton taking 3 of the 4 wins and Maxwell’s win being his first official win on a Superbike after moving from the Supersport class to the CBR1000RR for the 2009 season.

Spectators were treated to an awesome display of racing across the weekend with a very competitive field.  The pressure is definitely on at this point in the championship, but the man currently defending the title, Motobet Motologic’s Glenn Allerton, takes a philosophical approach.

“There is a certain amount of pressure on you when you are defending the title; everyone is wondering if you can do it again.  I try not to focus on that, I have to remain focused on the present season and just keep moving forward.   That way there is as much pressure on me as any other rider in the field”

For the man currently in 3rd place on the points tally, Wayne Maxwell, the focus is clear.

“I need to get a win at Eastern Creek to ensure my chances in the championship.  The Qld round was a fairly successful one for me, we made some good headway with the bike and I was able to take my first official win on a Superbike and it has only increased my determination.”

Maxwell knows the Eastern Creek circuit well, having grown up in Wollongong he enjoys racing there.

“Although I now live in Melbourne I still consider Eastern Creek my home track.  The circuit is a fairly technical one which suits my riding style.  I do enjoy racing there and I hope to be amongst the frontrunners on race day.   I’m definitely looking to get some strong points under my belt.”

In 2008 Maxwell took Pole position on his CBR600RR at the final round at Eastern Creek, going on to take 3rd place in that championship.  This year sees him vying for the number 1 spot on his Honda CBR1000RR and he is every bit as determined as team mate Glenn Allerton.

Allerton will not relinquish first place easily at Round 4 as the Eastern Creek circuit is also his home track and the desire to win in front of the home crowd is strong.

“I won my championship there last year which was fantastic to do at my home circuit.  Given the state of play at present with the points tally where it is my focus is on building my points buffer and gaining a clear lead in the championship going into the last few rounds.”

As it stands at present, Allerton is on 134 points in front of Josh Waters on 124 and Wayne Maxwell sits on 110 points.  With the points as close as this, nobody can afford to be complacent.  Team owner and manager, Paul Free is reserved in his comments about his team’s chances.

“We are only half way there and there isn’t much in it going into the 4th round.  By no means can anyone afford to relax.  However, the team is stronger than ever and everyone knows what is needed going forward.  I have every confidence in my team and we will arrive in Sydney as focused as ever on our objective; being number 1.”

Can Glenn Allerton take the round victory at his home circuit and maintain his lead?  Can Wayne Maxwell shake Josh Waters from second place on the points tally to make it a 1 – 2 for Motobet Motologic Racing?  Come to Eastern Creek on August 8th and 9th to support the Hondas of the Motobet Motologic Team and find out.
