Several of the Woodstock Honda Thor team are preparing to take on the annual off-road Hattah Desert Race this weekend (July 4-5) in north west Victoria.

Woodstock Honda Thor team owner Yarrive Konsky will compete in the Desert Race for the first time, pairing with Brodie Waters in the pony express class.

The popular Hattah Desert Race is one of only a handful of competitive events that Konsky will contest this year.

“This year my off-track commitments have increased, particularly with the Woodstock Bourbon Australian Superbike Championships, so I’m really looking forward to getting back on a bike and challenging myself in competition mode again.” said Konsky.

Part time motocross racer and reigning Australian Enduro 1 champion Peter Boyle is preparing for his second attempt at the gruelling endurance race.

In 2008 Boyle finished 3rd outright from a field of over 300 competitors.

“Last year’s race was one of the toughest off-road races on the national calendar and I’m expecting that this year’s race will be even more demanding,” Boyle said. “This event includes everything from tight, technical sections to really deep sandy hills and open paddocks so it’s a real challenge to maintain a consistent pace over the length of the race.”

The 22 year old will again compete in the one-rider ironman class, and has been busy prepping his Honda CRF450 for the four hour desert race.

“To account for the higher speeds and endurance of this race I’ve fitted a smaller sprocket to the rear wheel, added a bigger fuel tank and adjusted the steering dampener to a stiffer setting,” Boyle said.

The Hattah Desert Race runs over two days featuring juniors on Saturday July 4th, and ironman and pony express divisions in the senior race, held on the Sunday July 5th.
