WSBK: Davies stars in Aprilia Superteens series at Donington

Multiple-time Australian Dirt Track and 70cc Metrakit Champion Matthew Davies was the star performer in the Aprilia Superteens support races at Donington Park’s round of the Superbike World Championship on the weekend, setting pole position and winning Saturday’s opening race.

Davies broke the lap record in qualifying and again on his way to victory in the opening race, stunning onlookers in what is his maiden season of competing overseas.

Sunday’s race saw 14-year-old Davies engaged in battle with young gun Wayne Ryan until he fell in the penultimate corner, allowing Ryan to race to victory and he also marginally beat Davies’ previous lap record in the process.

The Aprilia Superteens series has seen the likes of Casey Stoner, Cal Crutchlow and Chaz Davies cut their teeth in their early years, boding well for a bright career for yet another up and coming Aussie dirt tracker.
