AMA MX: Reed on target for top finish at Hangtown Classic

Chad Reed PR:

Decorated Supercross superstar, Australia’s Chad Reed is looking to carry over strong form into the second round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship following a solid return to outdoor competition last weekend.

The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider narrowly missed an overall podium finish at Glen Helen, finishing a close fourth after fighting back from a slow start to the first moto.

An early pacesetter, Reed was the dominant 450 rider in practice and qualifying, and showed he had lost none of his speed despite not contesting an AMA motocross round since 2007.

He is aiming to convert this momentum into a frontrunning finish at this weekend’s Hangtown Motocross Classic in Sacramento, California.

“It was good to come away with a solid result at Glen Helen. I knew I had the speed and I knew the bike was good, it was just a matter of putting it all together at the same time,” said Reed.

“I was slow off the line in the first moto and that put me mid-pack for a few laps. I had to go hard out to get back to the front and the leaders had made too much ground.

“I know what I need to work on this weekend, Hangtown isn’t my favourite track so I’ll just get my head down and focus on the job.

“We’re looking good for the series, I’m feeling confident and I have a great team behind me, pushing me all the way.

“After Glen Helen, I knew the decision to race outdoors again was the right one. Some people out there doubted me, and it will be good to prove them wrong.”

Riders will contest two motos of approximately 35 minutes each on Saturday.
