WSBK: Laconi improving as Lanzi is called to DFX Ducati

Injured World Superbike rider Regis Laconi is showing signs of improvement following surgery to fractures in his neck suffered at South Africa’s Kyalami round last weekend, the Frenchman falling on his out-lap of the opening practice of the weekend.

After undergoing surgery earlier this week, Laconi has gradually been awoken from his medically induced coma and is now breathing under his own power according to European sources.

It is believed that Laconi has movement in is upper and lower limbs, responding and speaking with hospital staff as he continues to progress in his recovery period before hopefully being flown to Paris next week.

Replacing Laconi next weekend for DFX Ducati at the Miller Motorsport Park round will be Italian Lorenzo Lanzi, the former factory star who was left without a ride in 2009 but will now deputise in place of Laconi.

MotoOnline.com.au will endeavour to keep you up to date with Regis’ progress as he continues to improve.
