OZ MX: MX Nationals move on to Mackay for round four

Motorcycling Australia press release:

Only a few days remain before Mackay is inundated with Motocross fans and riders, as round four of the 2009 Australian Motocross Championship heads north to the Gum Valley Motorcycle Club.

Touted as one of the most picturesque Motocross venues in Australia, the Gum Valley club will play host to some of Australia’s best Motocross riders including reigning Champions Jay Marmont (Yamaha) and Luke George (Kawasaki).

After a strong start to the season, Marmont is once again breaking out to a strong lead, putting a 13 point buffer between himself and second placed Andrew McFarlane (Yamaha).

Pro Opens debutante Todd Waters (Honda) is holding onto third place but is now 32 points off the pace.

McFarlane, who returned from several years racing abroad, has found his groove once again on home soil, his smooth riding style allowing him to steal valuable points from the Series leader.

Meanwhile in the Pro Lites, controversy still surrounds the final moto at Toowoomba, and while the time penalty and off-track melodrama is still on everyone’s minds, an epic battle is guaranteed to take place when the gates drop on Sunday.

George retains the Series lead by just three points, however, with second placed Matt Moss (Suzuki) keen to take two wins on the weekend and show the rest of the class who’s boss, George may be handing the red plates over to the yellow bike.

The Under 19s are not to be outdone by their senior counterparts, with Josh Cachia (Yamaha) and Luke Styke (Yamaha) both tied on points for the Series lead.

Don’t forget that some of the factory trucks and riders will be attending a meet and greet at John Donnelly’s The Good Guys store in Mackay from 3pm on Friday 22 May 3pm.

The fourth round of the 2009 Motocross Nationals will be held at:

Gum Valley Motorcycle Club
Thompson Road
Koumala (near Mackay), QLD

Admission:
