FMX: Hart set to take free FMX tour to Newcastle

Fluid PR press release:

Newcastle’s Broadmeadow Showground will play host to the second stop of the Hart and Huntington Freestyle Tour presented by Holden, a celebration of freestyle motocross (FMX) and the action sports lifestyle starring the legendary CAREY HART and a host of Aussie talents.

Free to the public, the event will kick off at 3pm and run through until 5pm, featuring a non-stop display of FMX and mini bike stunts along with street and tattoo art, the latest tunes and exclusive fashion parades featuring Carey’s own Hart and Huntington apparel and associated brands.

The desire to bring the tour to Newcastle stemmed from Hart’s decade long friendship with two-time World Supercross Champion and Kurri Kurri local Chad Reed, who urged his close friend to add the motorcycle heartland to the calendar.

The Newcastle event is the only mid-week show on the tour and Hart said he was excited to be riding in front of Reed’s home town.

“Originally we were only going to do the show on weekends but after speaking with Chad I decided we couldn’t leave Newcastle off the schedule so we worked with the venue and came up with a special afternoon show,” Hart explained.

“Chad didn’t get the chance to ride in front of his home crowd in Newcastle last year so I was really pleased that I could fill the void for him.”

While the star of the show will undoubtedly be Hart, a pioneer of the FMX movement and the first man to land a backflip, it will also give a number of local riders the chance to show off their latest tricks.

Riding the Newcastle show will be Australian riders Matt McFerran and Robbie Marshall, a young, dynamic duo always on the cusp of the most progressive moves being showcased within the sport.

Hart handpicked his fellow FMX riders and said McFerran and Marshall were two riders at the top of their game.

“These guys are riding great at the moment,” Hart continued. “Between them they have performed in over 400 shows around the country in the past 12 months, so they were the perfect choice to join me on the tour.

“I can’t wait to get to Newcastle, the show plan is really beginning to take shape. We have also confirmed the insane Brown’s Grafix mini bike team as well as a number of exciting Newcastle artists and some amazing cars and bikes.”

Collectively, the 8-rider strong Brown’s Grafix mini bike team may only bring 400cc (50cc each) to the table, but what they lack in power is more than made up in excitement as they pull of a series of seemingly impossible moves high above the crowd.

At ground level blank canvases will be transformed into works of art in front of the eyes of show goers when influential street artists showcase their skills. Local artist Craig Irvine of Graffiti FX is one such artist who will display an array of his unique airbrush works as well as create live aerosol art at the event.

A magnificent line-up of cars and bikes will be on display with everything from Holden’s SS Ute to a Lamborghini Gallardo Coupe and rare motorcycles such as the Ducati Desmosedici and Bimota DB7.

The Hart and Huntington Freestyle Tour presented by Holden will be held at Broadmeadows Showground, adjacent to Newcastle Entertainment Centre between 3.00pm and 5.00pm on Thursday June 4.
