Dunlop dominates 2017 AUS-X Open Sydney spectacular

Dunlop Tyres press release:

It was a dominant weekend for Dunlop racers at the 2017 Monster Energy AUS-X Open Sydney inside Qudos Bank Arena for rounds four and five of the Australian Supercross Championship, in which Dunlop was the official tyre partner for the third-straight year.

This year Dunlop supplied every privateer that competed in the premier class at AUS-X Open with a new set of tyres valued at over $200, assisting them immensely in their current AUS Supercross SX1 campaign.

Saturday’s opening night of racing saw Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Dean Wilson claim victory in the SX1 main event aboard his Dunlop-shod machine as the remainder of the field battled it out behind him.

In the meantime, teammate and fellow AMA supercross and motocross regular Jason Anderson put on an incredible ride from the back of the pack all the way to second position after going down in the first turn with a list of riders, including championship points leader Justin Brayton.

Behind the factory Husqvarna duo it was Kade Mosig of the DPH Motorsport Yamaha team who rode to a strong fourth place finish as CDR Yamaha’s Dean Ferris rounded out the top five aboard his Dunlop-equipped YZ450F.

Penrite Honda Racing’s Brayton eventually crossed the line in eighth position after going down early, marking his first loss of the series after winning the opening three rounds convincingly.

Night two of racing saw a reversal of results in the SX1 category as Anderson captured a commanding victory over the field and earned the overall 2017 AUS-X Open win, with Wilson locking in the runner-up spot to wrap up the weekend.

In third it was defending champion Brayton who redeemed himself for night two, the American import regaining valuable championship points and now enters the final round with an 18-point advantage at the front.

CDR Yamaha’s Dylan Long crossed the line in seventh position as teammate Ferris, who led early before going down multiple times, crossed the line in 11th position. He is third in points with a single round to be contested.

In the SX2 category it was DPH Motorsport Yamaha’s Wilson Todd who captured his second-consecutive main event victory on Saturday night in an impressive ride that saw him control much of the 15-lap race.

Behind him it was fellow Dunlop-equipped racer Chris Blose who rode his Penrite Honda Racing entry to a strong second place finish in his first showing of the 2017 series – deputising for fellow American Gavin Faith on the CRF250R.

Blose edged out reigning champion Jackson Richardson for the runner-up spot as the Serco Yamaha rider crossed the line franticly in third place after going down in the final corner while the chequered flag flew.

Night two of SX2 action saw Todd take the early main event lead before Blose made contact in the move for the lead that saw both riders hit the ground and lose valuable track position.

Blose would eventually regain the lead and go on to cross the line first, while opening night victor and previous series leader Todd struggled with a damaged machine for the remainder of the race.

Trailing Blose was Richardson, who rode through to second place and took over the points lead, with Todd crossing the line in 11th place after falling a further three times throughout the 15-lap final. Richardson now carries a five point lead over Todd entering the finals.

“It was an incredible weekend for Dunlop at the 2017 AUS-X Open in Sydney,” commented Dunlop national motorcycle manager Sebastian Mincone. “To have Dunlop-equipped racers win all four main events through the weekend at such a spectacular event is really special for us.”

The 2017 Australian Supercross Championship is scheduled to conclude this weekend at Jimboomba in Queensland, where the SX1 and SX2 contenders will battle it out for both class crowns on 18 November.
