Review: 2018 Thor MX Prime Fit gear set

MotoOnline.com.au wears the latest 2018 Thor MX Prime Fit offering.

In recent years we’ve seen a new trend rising in the motocross gear market with a more athletic fit being developed by multiple brands. Thor MX is one of those brands that went ahead and created their own line of slim and minimalistic gear, the Prime Fit range. This being our first time wearing the Prime Fit range from Thor MX, it was exciting to get to the track and see exactly how it felt and performed.

Inspired by athletes that spend their days grinding away at the track pushing out 30-minute motos, the Prime Fit racewear has been designed around the rigors of modern motocross. The athletic fit and unrestricted mobility define the character of the Prime Fit gear set and despite the light weight design, the Prime Fit range still maintains solid durability at the same time.

The idea behind the Prime Fit range was to give you everything you need and nothing that you don’t. Not to mention that the designers also went ahead and created simple, bold and visually pleasing graphics such as our Rohl flo orange/grey kit that really tops off the minimalistic feel of the entire outfit. Basically, you look cool wearing this gear and that’s important, everyone enjoys looking the part.

Featuring a fitted chassis and compression sleeves, the 2018 Thor MX Prime Fit jersey screams high performance and the athletic fit is quite a refreshing feeling on-track. It is a bit of a different feeling throwing on the Prime Fit jersey, but I’m personally a huge fan of the tighter and more refined fit.

Using a four-way stretch material and flat lock seams, the 2018 Thor MX Prime Fit jersey is definitely one of the most flexible out there today. You almost feel like you’re not even wearing a jersey, it’s that flexible and comfortable. One thing to not though, you won’t be throwing a any bulky roost protectors underneath the Prime Fit jersey, there’s just not enough room to do it comfortably with such a snug athletic fit.

Overall the 2018 Thor MX Prime Fit jersey is really impressive and it performs great in every way. This design obviously won’t be for everyone, it’s a very specific style of product, but it’s definitely worth a try. Paired with the Prime Fit pant, which we’re about to talk about, you just feel light and nimble out on the track – it’s a pleasant experience that’s for sure.

Now, let’s talk about the pant. These pants really match up well with the Prime Fit jersey, they’re super light weight and I was actually surprised at just how good they were. The poly/spandex blend really does promote flexibility, but at the same time we’re treated with all of the durability and protection needed in a high performance motocross pant.

With premium grade full grain leather knee panels and performance coverage abrasion tolerant materials throughout, Thor ensured that the best of both worlds would be offered when it comes to the 2018 Thor MX Prime Fit pant. I’m a picky guy and I can’t stand a restrictive pant, but at the same time I know we can’t go out there with no protection, so this really is a nice happy medium between the two aspects.

Although the pant features a more athletic cut to match the jersey, there still remains ample room for your choice of knee protection too. The overall fit of the pant is right on the money and we’ve also been treated with adjustable hip side cinches for a more personalised fit. We obviously see the traditional ratchet style waist closure up front, but these side cinches add that extra sizing flexibility and I’m personally a big fan.

Topping off our 2018 Thor MX kit is a set of Sector gloves in the orange colour option to suit our Prime Fit Rohl kit. These all-new gloves have been designed to provide all-day comfort and functionality. Featuring a fitted stretch backhand panel for comfort and four-way stretch finger gussets, the Sector glove is super simple and comfortable.

There is some slight padding on the palm area, but it’s barely noticeable and if you’re someone who enjoys a thin palm like me, you won’t even notice it. The overall comfort and performance is right up there with the Sector glove and I’m personally quite happy with the product. There’s also perforations in the palm to ensure your hands don’t get sweaty along with silicone printed palm graphics for added grip.

Overall the 2018 Thor MX Prime Fit and Sector glove combination is definitely a great option if you’re looking for a high performance setup. It looks awesome on-track and performs just as well, you really can’t complain with that. Now available nationwide at your local Thor dealer, the 2018 Prime Fit jersey comes in at a recommended retail price of $89.95, the pant $179.95 and the Sector glove $29.95.
