Tim Gajser will continue on in the 2017 MXGP World Championship after taking a hard fall during moto two at the Kegums circuit in Lativa for round seven of the series.

Running in second position behind Red Bull KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings, the defending premier class champion went down in a fast section and was unable to finish out the moto aboard his Team Honda HRC CRF450R.

Following the incident, Gajser received medical attention at the track before undergoing further checks at home in Slovenia where he was cleared of any serious injuries.

Gajser’s moto two DNF came as another substantial hit to his MXGP championship defence after logging a 14th-place finish in moto one after going down on the second lap with another rider.

After entering the Kegums event as the series leader, Gajser now finds himself trailing new red plate holder Antonio Cairoli by 17 points heading into Teutschenthal’s eighth round in Germany.
