It was a strong return to the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship West Coast 250SX series in Arlington for Australia’s Hayden Mellross, the 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha rider matching his career-best finish on the night.

Forced to the sidelines for two rounds due to a hand injury, the 21-year-old entered the sixth round of the series with minimal seat time due to the extended recovery process.

Picking up where he left off, Mellross raced to yet another ninth-place main event finish inside AT&T Stadium to back up his maiden top 10 result from the San Diego round.

“It’s great to be back at the races and pick up where I left off,” said Mellross. “I’ve been off the bike for a few weeks but felt strong most of the night.

“The track was challenging but our bike was on point and felt overall it was a decent result. I was a bit fatigued toward the end of the race, from not being able to train, but overall it was a solid ride and another top 10.”

Mellross and his fellow West Coast 250SX contenders will now take a seven-round break as the series moves east. Mellross will return to action on 8 April at Century Link Field in Seattle for round 14.
