An updated 2017 Australian Supercross Championship calendar has been released by Motorcyling Australia (MA), featuring six rounds of racing spanning four states.

This year’s series is set to kick off at Jimboomba in Queensland on 23 September and conclude back in Queensland at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast on 18 November.

The double-header AUS-X Open event will now serve as rounds four and five on the revised calendar, which kicks off one week later for the 2017 schedule.

In addition to the updated calendar, the series will also feature an increased prize pool and a reduced entry fee following an agreement between the governing body and event promoters, according to MA CEO Peter Doyle.

“The meeting was aimed at bringing together the four promoters and driving 2017 with one clear direction in mind for everyone,” said Doyle. “The Australian supercross is such a huge event on the Australian off-road calendar and ensuring its sustainability is a must.”

Doyle believes these updates are vital to the growth of supercross in Australia and plans to work alongside promotors SB Promotions, EMT Events, Gilbert Racing and AME Management to ensure the upwards trend.

“Introducing higher prize packages and lower fees is just one of the new initiatives we aim to bring to the riders,” he added. “MA are committed to acting with the greater good of the sport in mind and being able to work with these four promoters on the supercross is just another stepping stone in MA development.”

The prize pool will be elevated to over $180,000 for 2017, while entry fees will drop to $200 for senior entrants and $50 for junior riders across their four applicable rounds.
