Red Bull KTM’s Trey Canard will miss this weekend’s second round of the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship due to a shoulder injury sustained last weekend at Anaheim 1.

The latest addition to the factory KTM squad injured the shoulder during practice before soldiering on to qualify for the main event and then opting out of the 20-minute race.

After further evaluation, doctors have confirmed that Canard indeed sustained a minor rotator cuff tear and will not be fit to contest this weekend’s event inside Petco Park.

“The good news is that the tear is minor and doesn’t require any type of surgery,” said Canard. “It feels extremely sore right now because of the swelling and fluid that has built up around it but once the swelling goes down the doctor says I should be good to go.”

A set return date for the top 450SX contender is yet to be announced at this point in time.
