Honda Genuine Racing’s Justin Brayton has dominated this weekend’s inaugural Rhythm X event in Tasmania after claiming victory in both the supercross and straight rhythm categories.

Brayton, who was crowned the 2016 Australian supercross champion last weekend in Sydney, edged out National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Wil Hahn in both events to be awarded a total of $30,000 in prize money.

“It felt awesome, the fans were incredible,” Brayton explained. “The track was amazing, it’s a world-class track. I love doing stuff like that, I had a blast. I expected the win, but you never know and especially with Rhythm X one mistake can ruin your whole run. I hope I can come back next year, I’d love to return.

“It was a tough battle, only a four-lap race and an elimination race so something a little bit different, it was sure exciting and I’m thankful to get the win. I felt good all day on the track, I felt fast in practice, but the main thing was the starts.”

Fellow National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Kade Mosig was credited third in straight rhythm after going head to head with CDR Yamaha’s Dean Ferris for the final spot on the podium. While Ferris fell short of the top three, he was able to finish behind Hahn and Brayton in the elimination-style supercross race.

Likeable privateer Geran Stapleton raced to fourth in the SX1 supercross event and first in the SX2 category, while also going to take a clean-sweep of the SX2 final in straight rhythm, beating home Raceline Pirelli KTM’s Jesse Madden.

CRF Honda Racing’s Joel Wightman and BBR Yamaha’s Aaron Tanti engaged in a battle for third, although Wightman held the upper hand with two wins to his name. The pair were credited second and third respectively in the supercross race, with Tomas Ravenhorst (Yamaha) coming in at fourth.
