A national survey conducted by Motorcycling Australia (MA) has signified its members are calling for change in the sport’s administration process, according to results released by the national governing body.

Earlier this month Foremost Media publications detailed the MA board and council’s proposed movement to an alliance agreement including a new funding model, which was clouded in controversy due to a variety of factors.

The MA board, currently made up of Peter Goddard, Michael Strano, John Bolitho and Steve James, has now released a further collective statement detailing the results of the recent extensive survey.

“Thanks very much for the fantastic response and sharing your opinions with us,” a letter circulated from the board read. “Your messages came through loud and clear. With over 80 percent of you unhappy with the way the sport is run, it confirmed our opinion that we have plenty of work to do to get where we need to go.

“Almost 95 percent of you want a better administration experience for licenses, entries and insurance, which is probably why 85 percent of you want state service offices with a consistent national system.

“Most of you feel pretty happy with your club’s service to you, which was great to hear, but we want to help improve that as well. Opinions varied slightly on service from your state, with riders from Tassie happiest with their service with an overall satisfaction score of 60 percent.

“NSW came in last, with 54 percent of riders unhappy or very unhappy with the way the sport is being managed. Investment of your money was the biggest source of frustration across the survey responses, with 80 percent feeling unhappy about the way their money is being invested.

“The board is disappointed, but not surprised, to hear that 40 percent of you don’t really know what MA does and what it doesn’t do. And almost half don’t think it’s clear what your insurance premiums buy you. That’s something we will address immediately, so look out for more coming on that.

“Fees were a big one – more than half of you don’t feel your license fee and insurance contribution is good value for money and almost everyone thinks it would be better to have nationally consistent fees.

“We know the last thing anyone needs is to feel they’re not getting value for their money. Great news is we have already been studying this, but now more than ever it’s a priority to make it clear what you are paying for and giving best value possible to our members.”

More detailed results of the survey can be viewed here. MA’s board was due to meet with the MA council including the state presidents late last week to discuss the survey and more – the outcome of that meeting soon to be released by MA.

The sport’s administration in Australia currently consists of MA at a national level, linked to the state controlling bodies of Motorcycling NSW, Motorcycling Queensland, Motorcycling South Australia, Motorcycling Australia Northern Territory, Motorcycling Tasmania, Motorcycling Victoria and Motorcycling Western Australia.
