SX2 practice one:
For the practice and qualifying sessions below we will post results or if anything notable happens during the sessions and then once the night show begins we will have complete reports per race. At a glance, the opening session saw Decotis start right where he left off last year, as did Hunter in podium contention. Surprising to see Faith all the way down in 10th however.

SX2 practice two:

SX1 practice one:
There’s been plenty of talk just how quickly Brayton would settle back into Australian racing and in the opening practice he was quickest on debut with Honda Genuine Racing, topping defending champion Reardon. Of note, Peters has quickly settled in at KTM, as has Hahn directly behind him on the timesheets at Kawasaki. Upon return to racing after missing much of the nationals, Bopping was solid in fifth. Enticknap completed just two laps, so he will go out in the second group.

SX1 practice two:

SX2 qualifying one:
Faith bounced back in the opening SX2 qualifier to seal the first pole of the year, marginally faster than countryman Decotis, while Hunter continued his solid run of form in third from Richardson and Mellross. Other standouts? Webster sixth and Cachia seventh in his comeback to the sport.

SX2 qualifying two:
Current SXD champion and newly-crowned outdoor MXD champion Evans posted a time quick enough to place him fifth overall at the conclusion of qualifying two, with Kirkland also inside the top 10. There’s no shortage of capable young talent in the 250 class this season.

SX1 qualifying one:
The Jimboomba 450 qualifying session was topped by Peters, continuing his impressive showings in Australia, but this time as part of KTM in place of Kirk Gibbs. Brayton was directly behind in an American 1-2, while Reardon was first of the Aussies in third. The spread of talent throughout the top 10 is really evident here this afternoon at the opener.

SX1 qualifying two:
Top of the second session Dobson’s time puts him in eighth overall, while Wilson’s in 12th and the ‘7deucedeuce’ Enticknap is 14th on combined times.

SX2 heat one:
It was a Penrite Honda 1-2 in the opening SX2 heat of the season, as former champion Faith topped satellite teammate Cachia – the latter making his first professional appearance. Behind the was top privateer Stapleton, while Yamaha duo Hunter and rookie Evans filled the top five.

SX2 heat two:
It was a welcome return home for Mellross in SX2 heat two, winning by just over a second from fellow US-based Aussie Richardson and Webster. It was behind him where the action was, as Wills got the better of Decotis for position after he went down while attempting to pass Webster, but salvaged fifth. Class rookie Hill had an inspiring result in sixth.

SX1 heat one:
Defending champion Reardon opened his 2016 account with the first SX1 heat race win, comfortably ahead of Waters in his first supercross appearance in some time, and Bopping, who is returning to racing after a long layoff. Mosig was fourth and directly behind Bopping, while 450 rookie Wilson was fifth. As for top qualifier Peters, he went down heavily in the sand section but managed to remount for seventh.

SX1 heat two:
American visitor Brayton easily won the second SX1 heat of the round, a full 4.2s ahead of new national champion Ferris, who hasn’t raced supercross since 2014 with KTM in the US. Behind Ferris was another American in Hahn, who in turn was well ahead of Marmont. Second of the factory Suzukis Wilson had a positive ride for fifth, in front of both Enticknap and Dobson.

SX2 final:
The opening SX2 main event of the season was won by Penrite Honda’s Faith, controlling the race from the front and signifying that he will be a true threat for the number one plate upon return to the class. Reigning US Arenacross champion Faith eventually won by 2.118s ahead of Mellross, with Serco Yamaha’s Hunter getting the better of new teammate Richardson for the final spot on the podium. Hunter and Richardson worked their way forward to position in the 15-lap final, while returning duo Stapleton and Cachia were impressively fifth and sixth despite some initial confusion with the timing system. Defending champion Decotis was seventh at race’s end, while the top 10 was completed by Woods, class newcomer Hill and Wightman. There were big crashes for Webster, also Wills, putting a dent in their point tallies to start to season.

SX1 final:
Honda Genuine Racing’s Brayton delivered on debut with the team at Jimboomba X Stadium in the SX1 main event, taking victory and the points lead to open the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship. Brayton was pressured all the way by MX Nationals champion Ferris, the CDR Yamaha rider starring on his way to second and ahead of teammate, defending champion Reardon. At the end of the 20-lap duration Brayton was 3.612s ahead of Ferris and 11.866s in front of Reardon, while the top five was filled by Waters and another American in Hahn. Behind Hahn for sixth was Kawasaki teammate Mosig, with Luke Wilson a lap down, Marmont upon return, Jay Wilson and Enticknap completing the top 10. It was an unfortunate end to the night for Peters, crashing out of the main. Complete final results are still to come.
