The opening two rounds of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship will be aired on Fox Sports 5, Queensland event promoter SB Promotions has confirmed.

Jimboomba will host the opening round on 17 September before moving onto Toowoomba on 14 October, with both featuring standalone two-hour delayed telecasts.

The production will be completed by Power Productions, which also does the Australian Superbike Championship package for Motorcycling Australia. Telecast times are yet to be confirmed.

“I have a very big announcement today that I think will ensure we are moving in the right direction and generating significant exposure for our sport,” SB Promotions’ Scott Bannan said in an interview on the series Facebook Page.

“Both round one and round two of this year’s championship series will now be shown on Foxtel in a special delayed telecast presentation. I’ll provide more information and screening times as we get closer to the event.

“Add to this the fact that we already have a really strong six-round national event series, featuring different promoters all adding their own special flavour. We’ll have some more really exciting news next week from across the rounds, but it’s certainly fair to say, SX is back in a big way.”

Entry fees for rounds one and two of the season in Queensland are the lowest of the series, featuring the SX1 ($225), SX2 ($225), Junior Lites ($75) and Junior 85/150s ($75) categories.

Prize money on offer for the Jimboomba and Toowoomba rounds amounts to over $25,000 per round, rewarded across the top 15 finishers in both the premier SX1 and SX2 ranks. In total there’s over $120,000 to be paid out through six rounds.
