Honda Gariboldi’s MXGP World Championship leader Tim Gajser has taken pole position at Lommel’s 14th round of the season in Belgium on Saturday.

Gajser topped the heat race ahead of Jeremy Van Horebeek (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing), who is contesting his home round of the season.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle and Team Suzuki World MXGP’s Kevin Strijbos had a decent scrap for third, with Strijbos eventually winning that battle after charging hard up the inside for the spot with only five minutes to go.

The winner of the most recent round of MXGP, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Nagl, rounded out the top five after taking a few laps to find his mojo. In the end, he had the sand dialed and finished right on the rear wheel of Desalle.

In MX2 it was Team Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer who claimed victory, leading home Petar Petrov (Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team) and sand specialist Brian Bogers (HSF Logistics Motorsports KTM).

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s sand masters’ Jeffrey Herlings and Pauls Jonass are both out of the running for this weekend, injured in the lead-up to the round.
