National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team set for special military round

Kawasaki Motors Australia press release:

As the 2016 MX Nationals returns from its traditional five-week mid-season break, National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s motocross riders are primed and ready for the gate to drop on the second half of the championship at Nowra, New South Wales on Sunday.

The Nowra stop of the season will feature as a special military round of the Australian Motocross Championship, which is an important event for the National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team as part of Team Navy.

For brothers Matt and Jake Moss, the return to Nowra will be something of a homecoming. The twins grew up just half an hour away at Sussex Inlet and are relishing racing at the track they’ve cut thousands of laps around.

Multi-time Australian Motocross Champion Matt Moss is coming into the sixth round with momentum on his side after claiming second overall at Wanneroo five weeks ago and a productive mid-season break that saw the team make further improvements to his 2016 KX450F race bike.

“I’m really happy with where everything’s positioned at the moment and I’m ready to go this weekend,” Moss said. “It’s been a great break and we’ve adjusted some little things on the bike that have really improved its performance. Sunday is going to be a great return to the series and there will be a lot of family and friends in the crowd, so it’s going to be a big one for me.”

Moss’s MX2-racing brother Jake is also eagerly anticipating the home ground advantage as he returns from some hairline fractures sustained in a heavy crash at Wanneroo, as well as additional arm surgery.

“I was under orders to rest after Wanneroo, so I took the time to have surgery and fix an existing niggling injury on my arm at the same time,” he explained. “I couldn’t be happier with how it went and I’ve been back on the bike for almost two weeks.

“I raced a Sunny Coast round last week and won all three races and every time I’m out on the track I feel progressively stronger. There will be plenty of support for me along the fences this weekend and I can’t wait to get out there and put my MX2 campaign back on track.”

MX1 championship-contending teammate Kade Mosig enters this weekend’s round feeling stronger and faster than he has all year, buoyed by the memory of his third-place finish at Nowra in 2015. It could be the strongest stop of his campaign yet aboard the KX450F.

“Nowra’s a different track from the rest of the series with how tight it is, but everyone’s in the same boat and I had a great result there last year,” Mosig reflected. “I think this second half of the season will be strong – I’ve got my body back to 100 percent and have found improvements in my fitness and strength. I really we’ll like we’re in a better position than we have been all year.”

The gates will open at 7.30am for Sunday’s sixth round of the MX Nationals at Nowra in New South Wales, which will feature a special military round theme for the 2016 season. Tickets are available at the gate.

“To be associated as part of Team Navy is a great privilege for the National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team,” commented team manager Troy Carroll. “It is an honour for us as a team and we really enjoy the relationship in what are two very intense environments when we are in action – this military round will be one of the most memorable of the season for us as a team.”
