Raceline Pirelli KTM’s Wills and Kirkland focussed ahead of round six

KTM Australia press release:

The Raceline Pirelli KTM team are preparing to load up and make the short trip from the team’s location in Newcastle down to Nowra, for round six of the 2016 MX Nationals, being held this Sunday July 3.

With the mid-season break coming to an end, both Dylan Wills (MX2) and Wade Kirkland (MXD) have refocussed and recharged ahead of this weekend, both riders hoping to put on impressive performances after having more time to test and train.

Wills, who raced to an outstanding moto win and finished in third place overall at Nowra last year, says this weekend will be somewhat of a home round for him, and is looking forward to hitting the track once again.

“I had a week off after Wanneroo to let a few little things heal up and just get my body back to where I want it to be, but after that I just got down to Nowra and did some riding with Cooper Pozniak and Matt Moss,” he said.

“I’m feeling good ahead of this weekend, I’ve got the track sorted out and I’m just excited to get out there.

“Nowra is only two hours from home for me, so this is a home round in a way. It was my favorite club growing up and the layout hasn’t changed a whole lot since I was on 60’s, so I know my around the place pretty well! I’m looking forward to it!”

For Kirkland who currently sits in second place in the overall Pirelli MXD Championship standings, the five-week break has served him well, and with additional testing under his belt says he’s excited to go racing with the team again on Sunday.

“The mid-season break was good for me – I was originally going to race in the MX2 class at Wanneroo, but I opted to sit it out and just focus on school and riding and I think that was the right choice,” he said.

“I’ve been able to do a lot of quality training, and last week we also did some testing with the team and have got the suspension even better, so we’re feeling pretty positive about this weekend.

“I’m not thinking too much about the championship at the moment, I’m just trying to stay focused on putting together two good races, and keeping consistent – If I can get both of those things right, we’ll be in a good position.”
