Chad Reed made it through a 200th career Monster Energy AMA Supercross event at St. Louis last Saturday night, the Australian’s US career spanning from 2002 all the way through to now.

The Monster Energy/360fly/Chaparral/Yamaha Factory Racing rider has to make 28 more starts to eclipse Mike LaRocco’s record of 227, which could be achieved during the 2018 season.

“200 flew by pretty fast,” Reed reflected. “It’s kind of sad how fast they went, I guess. I would truthfully say that I feel more appreciative and I’m enjoying it more now, but with that said, I always still have frustrations.

“I’m as competitive as I was back then, I want to be a podium guy, and I’m just not putting myself in good positions, not getting good starts. Then tonight we just had an issue and really struggled the last five laps.”

Reed completed his 200th supercross race in sixth position, but it could have been better if it weren’t for some undisclosed troubles across the final five laps of the main event. It’s something they’ll continue to work on.

“I was a fourth place guy tonight I think,” he added. “But just the last five laps I couldn’t fight, pretty much just had to ride around. It’s an issue we’re going to have to work on because we had it last week. It wasn’t as bad, it was maybe like the last two laps, and then this week it was the last five.”

A full interview with Reed recounting his 200th start can be found on the web now over at Racer X Online.
