Oakdale JMCC’s fundraiser event for injured Australian rider Dan McCoy was an overwhelming success for the club and its organisers on Sunday, 31 January.

The Oakdale club, where McCoy began his racing career some 25 years ago, saw over 200 competitors enter the event and an estimated crowd of 2000-2500 in attendance to lend a helping hand and watch the racing action.

Over $31,000 was raised on the day and a Yamaha TTR-50 and Brett Metcalfe signed jersey are still to be auctioned off online to assist in McCoy’s medical expenses following his serious spinal injury.

McCoy, who arrived home yesterday after spending multiple weeks hospitalised in the UK, is overwhelmed by the support from the Oakdale club and the entire Australian motocross community.

“In my entire career I’ve always tried to put back into the sport what I gained out of it,” McCoy told MotoOnline.com.au as he continues his rehabilitation at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney earlier today.

“For all the people both in and out of the sport that have supported me through these trying times, I am completely overwhelmed and thankful for their help. I cannot put it into words the events that have unfolded and how everyone has rallied to help. Thank you again for all the assistance in my recovery.”

MX Nationals regular and local Oakdale rider Dan McEntee was the winner of the pro feature race on the day and chose to donate his $1000 winnings to McCoy following the event.
