Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey won his third successive 450SX main event in tonight’s Oakland round of the 2016 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.

Dungey sprinted away to victory over title challenger Ken Roczen (RCH Soaring Eagle/Jimmy John’s/Suzuki Factory Racing), while second of the Red Bull KTMs Marvin Musquin made his first premier class podium.

“To be able to get out front and find your lines early in the race is key,” said Dungey. “It’s great to see all of the hard work pay off.

“I am really happy for Marvin, who is my teammate, for earning the first podium of his career. I train with him during the week and tonight he proved he has the speed.”

It was a strong ride for Australia’s Chad Reed on the Monster Energy/360fly/Chaparral/Yamaha Factory Racing entry, finishing fifth behind a charging Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Racing Husqvarna). Lawson Bopping (Yamaha) claimed 17th.

Major news for the evening was James Stewart’s (Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing) withdrawal from the main event on lap eight after fading back through the field.

In the Western Regional 250SX main event it was Joey Savatgy (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) who broke through for his first win, after a technical problem put Cooper Webb (Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha) out of the lead.

Savatgy, who now leads the title race, won ahead of Colt Nichols (Cycle Trader Rock River Yamaha) and Christian Craig (GEICO Honda) in his second rostrum on the trot.

Of the Aussies Hayden Mellross (51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha) battled to a 13th-place result, while Luke Clout (MAD Racing Dirt Candy Suzuki) was ruled out with a broken femur during practice.
